Volunteering

At least 70 volunteers from many countries have been involved in the aquafarm project since it started in 2018. They have all left their mark somewhere in the greenhouse as anything from a simple inscription to a work of art.

The entire farm is over 120 acres of paradise surrounded by wineries and very close to the world famous surf beaches of Margaret River. John and Natalie are one of four families sharing the property. They established the Margaret River Aquafarm and host you in their home – a wonderful conversion of an old country railway shed. If you want, you can camp or stay in a boat.

All of them have come here wanting to understand more about the ethics, environmental impact and safety of food production. The aquafarm is a great place to experience and think about these issues.

You do not need to have any particular skill when you come here, just an interest in sustainable food production and a desire to share and learn.

When you stay here you may get to learn any of these skills:
* basic plumbing
* carpentry
* electrical and/or electronics
* fencing
* basic construction
* fibreglass tank manufacture
* aquaculture system design
* horticulture – seeding, transplanting, harvesting
* organic methods of pest control
* fish husbandry
* composting and worm farming
